Paint Party Friday: Geometric Painting Technique

I came across this painting tutorial from Denise Thewissen while blog hopping last week and just had to try it out. You draw a simple picture-I did a silhouette of a bird on a branch (me, birds, go figure...), then draw several geometric shapes over that, overlapping wherever you want and letting some run off the edges of your piece. After that begin filling in with color, not letting the same color touch and trying to alternate warm and cold colors. Here's my finished painting:

I feel like I want to go back and shade it...or something...?? Anyway--it was a lot of fun to do.
Happy Weekend All!

  1. I love Denthe! Very nice...I tried one but wasn't happy with it!!

    Good job!

  2. Having tried this for Kristen's Tutorial Tryouts i can appreciate your painting, it works very well. I enjoyed doing it too. I like the way the single image of the bird on a branch works so well.

  3. I really love this style. Happy PPF, Annette x

  4. Hey, another tryout of my tutorial! it looks great! Love all the different versions I've seen so far. Wonderful image of that single bird too!

  5. I think it's lovely just like it is (but shading might be nice too... Hmmm... I'm very decisive! lol) Either way, I really love your color combo and your composition :)

  6. Love all the colors. Great shapes too.

  7. Love the way this came out. Love the colours and the design as well. Stunning work.
